Education Minister Maszlee Malik has come under fire for reportedly linking the existing matriculation quota to unfair employment practices in the private sector.
Speaking to Universiti Sains Malaysia students during a question-and-answer session yesterday, Maszlee cited the example of certain jobs requiring applicants to be able to speak Mandarin.
In a statement released this morning, Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy said he was shocked a minister of education is still entrapped in thinking along racial lines.
Federal lawmaker Fong Kui Lun was also baffled by the minister’s statement.
